Re: Next Box Set from 1980? |
I think that the added attraction is obviously the video - those superior shows you mention before and after these runs don't have that going for them.
I saw most of my 50-or-so shows between 79 and 82, so I for one appreciate any HQ video from this era. This may not be the best "Grateful Dead" ever, but this is the band that I fell in love with. All that said, I'm not sure that I would be buying it - will depend on the video content most likely

First show wasn't until 84, but Dead Set/ Reckoning / Dead Ahead were what I cut my teeth on, so I too have a soft spot for this time period

Re: Next Box Set from 1980? |
My first show was NYE 1980, they played an acoustic set, the last one as an opener to a show. It caught me off guard as I had no clue what to expect - and the doses were kicking in with full force. Was kind of a blur as my face melted off. I was in prime mental condition for the electric sets though.
Dead Set/Reckoning also touched me in that puppy love stage of the GD experience. I remember looking at the album cover with an intense longing. The Dead dreams were really strong, like being all alone at a concert - just them and me. I got roped in really strong right from the get go. Hasn't let up much over the years.
